Joseph "Joe" John Cunderla of Rochester, Minnesota died Saturday October 9, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester. He was born May 24, 1936 to Joseph Paul and Mary Cunderla. On September 15, 1962 he married Peggy Curtin. They had two children, Maria Hoover of Lemoore, California, and Joseph Anthony Cunderla (deceased).
Joe graduated from Rochester High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Air Force on February 16, 1956. He graduated from Electronics Fuel Control Repairman school on October 9, 1956. He also an Auto Flight Control Systems Technician and was honorably discharged on February 16, 1960. He then returned to Rochester and worked for Crenlo until he retired. He took a class in beekeeping at the Rochester Vocational Technical school intending to make a hobby of beekeeping. He eventually accumulated 40 hives and sold honey to a local bakery. After retiring from Crenlo he drove cars to the Minneapolis Auto Auction for several local dealerships. Hunting and fishing were his hobbies until a leg injury made that too difficult. He tied his own fishing flies and made his own lures. He hunted with rifle and bow. After his leg injury he took up wood carving. In the last years of his life he joined the Rochester Woodcarvers.
Joe was a man of many talents. He and Peggy travelled around the world including Japan, Europe, the United States, and Ireland. Joe especially enjoyed their trip to his parents' birthplace, Czechoslovakia.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, his sister Helen Haberbush of Reeds Landing, brother Don Cunderla of Reeds Landing, his son Joseph Anthony Cunderla of Rochester, and his niece-in-law June Haberbush.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 15, 2021 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Schuster officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Friday. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas, MN.
The family prefers donations to Alzheimer's research be given in lieu of flowers.
