Obituary

The funeral Mass for John Aloysius Toogood will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 10, 2015 at St. Pius X Church in Rochester with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Jack, 91, of Rochester died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Samaritan Bethany after a long illness.

John Toogood was born April 4, 1923 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Grace Beatrice Stundon and Wayne Anthony Toogood. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1942 and joined the Marine Corp that summer. Jack served in World War II as a Technical Sergeant from 1943 to 1946.

Jack began his career in the Rochester Fire Department in 1947. He retired in 1983 as a Captain on Truck 12, at station one.

On October 29, 1947 he married Genevieve Nellie Klubertanz at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester. The couple lived and raised their family together for the next 66 years.

Jack is survived by two brothers and two sisters, three children, Gloria (Steve) Carroll of Sutherland, Iowa, Michael (Marilyn) Toogood and Marvin (Sandra) Toogood, both of Rochester, also eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gennie, a brother, George, his mother and father, and two grandchildren.

He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, watching any kind of sports, hunting, family, and family gatherings involving good food and telling stories.

Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm, Monday March 9 in the River Park Chapel at MackenFuneral Home, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
