John G. Mayne, M.D.
The Funeral Mass for John G. Mayne, M.D. will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at The Church of St. John the Evangelist, with the Rev. John Lasuba officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
Dr. Mayne, 90 of Rochester, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at Charter House.
Doctor Mayne was born August 27, 1921, in Rockford, Iowa. He attended St. Johns University (1939-1940) and received the degrees of B.S. (1943), Northwestern University; and M.D. (1946), University of Minnesota. He interned at St. Marys Hospital, Duluth (1946-1947), and served in the U.S. Army (1947-1949). Doctor Mayne entered the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1949 and received the M.D. degree in medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1955. He was appointed a Mayo consultant in medicine in 1961. He has had research interests in connective tissue diseases and biomedical ethics. At Mayo, Doctor Mayne advanced through the academic ranks to become assistant professor in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1968 and associate professor in the Mayo Medical School in 1974. He has been active and received honors in a number of professional associations. As a rheumatologist, he stimulated lay interest in arthritis by organizing local volunteer groups in this field. Doctor Mayne retired from Mayo on December 31, 1985.
Dr. Mayne is survived by a sister, Eleanor J. Donovan and sister-in-law Lois Mayne, brother-in-law, John F. Donovan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Roy and Therese Mayne and a brother Donovan J. Mayne.
