The funeral Mass for John Michael Lynaugh will at 10:30AM on Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30-5:30 PM on Sunday, December 21, 2014 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and also one prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Mr. Lynaugh, 88 of Rochester, died December 16, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
John was born October 19, 1926 in Rochester to John and Ellen (O'Mahony) Lynaugh. He attended Stewartville schools and received his GED. He married Patricia "Pat" Simmons of Walnut Grove, MN on October 10, 1952. She is a retired registered nurse. After his marriage, John attended the Area Vo-Technical School and took electrical and welding classes. At the same time, he was working for Libby's and farmed. In August 1978 he worked at IBM as a Boiler Engineer. While there, he received a Chief Boiler Engineer license and retired from IBM in 1991. After his retirement, he worked as a substitute custodian for the Rochester School District.
He was a member of the Eagles Club for 58 years, and past member and president of the Rochester Chapter of the National Association of Power Engineers. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, and a life-long member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church where he served as a eucharistic minister and member of the finance committee.
He is survived by his wife Pat; a sister Mary Jo (William) Galligan of Rochester; nephew Richard (Julie) Galligan of Shakopee, MN; two nieces, Diane Mulcahy of West Des Moines, IA and Maureen (Terry) Gintz of Rochester.
John enjoyed playing 500, repairing machinery, yard work, concerts, plays, ballgames and traveling. He and Pat traveled to Europe, Norway, China, Africa, Israel and Egypt. Last year they took a trip with TC Travel.
John donated his corneas to the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank. The family would like to thank all who cared for John on the Domatilla unit at St. Marys and Juan Bowen, MD, and Janell Frantz, RNCNP at Mayo Clinic. John looked forward to having morning coffee with his friends
Family prefers memorials to St. Bridget's Cemetery Fund or the Eagles Cancer Telethon.
