Obituary

A memorial service for John Johnson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Autumn Ridge Church in Rochester, MN with Pastor Dan Farm officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Johnson, 49, of Rochester died Thursday, March 1st at Methodist Hospital in Rochester of a short battle with stage four colon cancer.

John was born March 27, 1968 in Austin, MN to James and Bonnie (Fosness) Johnson. He attended Rochester Central Lutheran School and later graduated from Mayo High School in 1986. John served in the US Marine Corps for four years and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines. He attended Rochester Community College and later received his bachelor degree from Winona State University. John worked for Benchmark Electronics for many years. On June 15, 2002, he married Amy Weller.

He loved going on walks and bike rides with his family and little dog, Dexter. They also enjoyed canoeing and kayaking together in Chester Woods. John loved playing catch with his son and attending sporting events. He was also a huge fan of KFAN radio. He played Rochester Youth Hockey during his elementary and middle school years. He was also an avid softball player for many years. John was a loving husband, father, brother, and devoted son. John was like a second father to his many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Amy; two children, Evan (12) and Maya (9) Johnson; parents, James Johnson of Blooming Prairie and Bonnie Johnson of Rochester; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Katherine Weller of Burnsville, MN; two brothers, James (Cindy) Johnson Jr of Claremont, MN, and Jeff (Angie) Johnson of Rochester, MN; two sisters, Jacqueline (Alan) Thiemann of Dodge Center, MN, and Jill Johnson of Hastings, MN. He is also survived by many caring aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his nephew, Ross.

As a family, we are at peace knowing he made Jesus his Lord and Savior and we will see him again.

Memorials are preferred to John's children.
