Joanne Sullivan, 93 of Rochester passed away on Thursday December 5, 2019 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Joanne Irene McCaleb was born On October 11, 1926. The daughter of Neal Dow and Irene (Predmore) McCaleb. She was born in a farmhouse, on a farm near Marion Township, the village which is about 10 miles southeast of Rochester. The family lived in Marion for many years. She enjoyed her childhood there, with many friends. She attended elementary school and church in Marion. Music was her interest, singing in a trio, and the church choir.
On June 28, 1947, Joanne married William Sullivan at Marion Church of Christ. Bill was from Rochester, and was a career Navy Man. For the next 16 years they lived wherever his duty took them. They spent 2 years in Taiwan and 3 years near Chicago at the Great Lakes Navy Training Center. Joanne worked as a dental assistant. Joanne enjoyed their navy years, even though there were many months of separation.
Bill retired from active duty in 1962, and they returned to Rochester. They both worked at Mayo Clinic, where Joanne was a receptionist. Joanne left her job in 1967, when the couple adopted two children, Christine and Terry, Siblings 8 & 3 years old.
She enjoyed sewing and activities with her family and church. In her later years, she did child care and also was a caregiver to her parents in their elderly years.
She is survived by her daughter Christine and son Terrance (Terry). Granddaughter Ashley of Rochester. Grandson, Jason Milam of Denver. She was loved by 6 Great Grandchildren; a sister-in-law Margaret of Tucson AZ; many nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, also a sister Leonora Smith-Predmore, and three brothers, Larry, Keith, and Lex McCaleb.
A private family burial will be held at a later date in Marion Cemetery in Marion, MN.
Family prefers memorial to Marion Road Christian Church Building Fund.
