Obituary

Jane Irving, 96, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Cottagewood Senior Communities.

Jane was born January 6, 1923 in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Pauline Myers. After high school in Shawano, Wisconsin in 1940, she graduated from Chillicothe Business College, and began her first job at the Fred Harvey Company in Chicago, where, through a friend, she met her future husband, Richard Irving. They were married in 1944.  After World War II they began raising their family in Missouri. In 1967, Richard's job with PepsiCo brought them to Rochester, where Jane became a medical transcriptionist at Mayo Clinic. Four years after the death of her husband in 1971, she moved to San Antonio, Texas to continue her work as a transcriptionist at the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital. She then worked as a secretary for Social Work Services, until her retirement in 1988. She returned to Rochester in 2002.

Jane was active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, and as usher. She enjoyed travel, oil painting, ballroom dancing, reading mysteries, and meeting people from all walks of life. She is survived by sons, Rick Irving of El Paso, TX, Kenneth Irving (Ronnie) of Staten Island, NY, and Barry Irving of Minneapolis; as well as four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Study of Alzheimer's Disease.
