James "Jim" Duane Heydon, 69, of Rochester, MN died Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary's Campus.

Jim was born June 14, 1957, in Rochester, MN to Morris and Louise (Duane) Heydon. He attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic grade school, graduated from Lourdes High School in 1975, and received his bachelor's degree from Winona State University. On May 23, 1987, Jim married Patricia Sloan at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with three girls: Megan, Jana, and Emily. Jim was dedicated to his work as a CPA at Smith Schafer & Associates for over 40 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed his work and the people he met at the Rochester Athletic Club.

Jim found joy in life's simple pleasures-tending his garden, baking treats for those he loved, and relaxing at the cabin. Above all, he treasured his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to spoil them.

Jim was active in the Rochester community, volunteering with the Sertoma 1200 Club, Ronald McDonald House, and Rochesterfest. He was a dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and proudly hosted Rochester Honkers baseball players for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Pat; his daughters, Megan, Jana (Jesse) Odenthal, and Emily; and his cherished grandchildren, Maxwell James and Emma Louise. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Balow, John (Pat), Ann (John Jilk), and Joe; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Nancy, Bill (Lynne), Mike (Janel), Susan, and Jennifer; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother/father in-laws Donna and Ernie Sloan, brothers-in-law Dave Balow and Ernie Larson, nephew-in-law Ed Boso, and his beloved aunts Hazel and Alta, who held a special place in his life.

The Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am, Monday, June 29, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00pm on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Pius X Catholic School or the donor's choice.

Jim's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for him throughout his illness. Their compassion, kindness, and dedication while he was receiving care through the Mayo Clinic System provided great comfort to Jim and his family.
