Obituary

Jim J Flury, 70, of Rochester went to his heavenly home Monday April 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at their residence after a lengthy battle with Lymphoma and Acute Mylogenous Leukemia. Jim regarded his medical team of Dr.'s Thomas Witzig, Aaron Mansfield, and Robin Klebig NP, as caring members of his own family.

Jim was born on Oct. 3, 1942 in Marion Township to Ernest and Hattie (McCaleb) Flury. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960. Jim married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Karen (Campbell) Flury on July 9, 1966.

Jim's dedication and lifelong career involved working in the grocery industry. He began his career at National Tea Co. in October 1959 and then joined Barlow Foods of Rochester in 1970, where he served for 30 years in a variety of management roles including 3 years at Barlow's Miracle Mart in Bismarck ND from 1997 thru 2000. He then worked for 10 years with Coborn's Cashwise Inc. as the store manager in Austin, MN and concluded his career as an advisor at the Eyota Market in Eyota, MN. Jim was an active member of both the National Grocer's Association and the MN Grocer's Association and served on the Board of Directors for 8 years.

Jim was a lifetime member of the Marion Church of Christ where he served for many years as a member of the church board while also serving as an active volunteer and member for several community organizations. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge – Pleasant Grove for 45 years, the Odd Fellows Lodge for 20 years, the Elks Lodge, and was an active member of Rotary Club 2 of Rochester, Austin, MN, and of Bismarck-Mandan North Dakota.

Jim will be forever remembered for his ready smile, enthusiastic handshake, quick witted sense of humor, spontaneous one liners, his love for sports including his unwavering commitment to the MN Vikings and MN Twins. His phenomenal work ethic was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a fan of corvettes and treasured the memories of his '63 split window coupe.

He is survived by his wife Karen and his daughters Rainie (Rick) Flury Tufty, and Lynette (Shane) Lacey. The joys of his life included his four grandchildren, Kadie Ketchum, Kolton Tufty, Abbe and Kylie Lacey as well as step grandchildren Chad (Brandy) Tufty and Heather (Tufty) & Mike Kuhn and great grandchild Ocean Kuhn. He is also survived by his brothers Darrold (Buzz) & Naomi Flury, Ernie (Becky) Flury, Tinker (Sherry) Flury, and sisters Ora Stoppel and Ethelyn (Sue) & Tom Brogan, father-in-law Stanley Campbell, sisters-in-law Linda (Chuck) Lunde, Donna (Jim) Loehr, and brother-in-law Howard (Nancy) Campbell, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Hattie, brothers Dwayne and Norval (Bike), as well as mother-in-law Veleita Campbell and sister-in-law Rebecca Campbell.
