A memorial Mass for James Felix Eischen will be at 11:00am on Thursday November 14 th , 2013 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Mark McNea officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Mr.Eischen, age 77, of Rochester passed away at his home on Monday, November 11, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
James F. Eischen was born on April 14 th , 1936 in Mountain Lake, MN to Felix and Madeleine (Kelly) Eischen.
Jim spent most of his childhood on his family farm in Comfrey, MN moving to Sleepy Eye during his high school years. He joined the Air Force in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1962. He earned his master's degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling in 1970 and worked for Minnesota Services for the Blind. He later worked as a real estate broker in the Rochester area. In retirement, he worked as a general service employee at Rochester Methodist Hospital. He was known as a personable and outgoing individual to the patients he helped on a daily basis.
Over the years he enjoyed singing, coaching youth soccer and softball, deer hunting, and spending time in the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn (Mengelkoch) Eischen; his daughter Carolyn Kind (Pete Balk) of Rochester, MN and his son Matthew Eischen of Rochester, MN; five grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Johnson of Wilmar, MN and Madeleine (Arthur) Hounslow of Stillwater, OK. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents; a sister Mary Ellen Zimmerman and his brother Robert Eischen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association or Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research.
