The memorial service for James  "Jim" C. Shields, Sr. will be held Friday June 22, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochester with Rev. Thomas J. Parlette Officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Friday, June 22, 2012.

Mr. Shields, 79 of Rochester, died Tuesday June 19, 2012, at Mayo-Lake City Care Center, after a lengthy Illness.

James "Jim" C. Shields Sr. was born May 14, 1933 in Webster, South Dakota. In 1936 he was adopted from the Owatonna Orphanage by Charles and Emeline Shields. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1951. Jim married Helen Marie Flanders at First Methodist Church in Rochester on July 18, 1952. Jim was employed at Mayo Clinic, Division of Engineering, for 32 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed sports, especially his beloved New York Yankees, music, and his dog, Gracie and his cat, George. Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 66 years and a member of Rochester Elks Lodge.

Jim is survived by his wife and long time care giver, Helen, three grandchildren Elizabeth and Jessica Meyer of Byron and Charles Childs of Welch, Mn., and special friend, Rita Childs of Welch, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jim Jr.
