James "Jim" Carl Mogen, age 79 of Rochester passed away on March 1, 2013 at Sunrise Cottages of Rochester following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Jim was born on November 9, 1933 and resided in Rochester his entire life. On July 18, 1957, he married Helen Berg and they had four children. He served in the US Marine Corps for 4 years. Following his service he began a lifelong career at IBM Rochester.
Jim enjoyed wood carving, music, and all sports. He was an avid Vikings fan. He loved spending time with his children and grand children. His favorite thing was spending summers at the cabin surrounded by his entire family. He sang with the Rochester Barbershop Chorus for many years. Jim was also very active in the Elks Drum and Bugle Corps. More than anything, Jim enjoyed spending quality time with the love of his life Helen, which included traveling, visiting friends and family.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Helen of 55 years, a son Dan (Melissa) Mogen, three daughters Lori (Tom) Buske, Jill Savage all of Rochester and Melissa Held (fiancé Gino Villella) of Minneapolis. Nine grandchildren, which he is very proud of: Katina, Ryan, Michelle, Danielle, Paul, Matthew, Jacob, Justine and Madison, three great-grandchildren: Allison, Charlize, Benjamin and a sister Kay (Dale) Pearson of Rochester.
A memorial service for Jim will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 1:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bauch officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service. Jim's ashes will be interred in Oakwood Cemetery East at a later date.
