August 1, 1928 – November 1, 2012
A funeral Mass for J. Arthur "Art" Wilber will be 10:00AM Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester officiated by Rev. LaVern Trocinski. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Wilber, age 84, died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Park Nicolett Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Art was born August 1, 1928 at Constable, New York. He was the eldest son of Lloyd and Elizabeth (Demerse) Wilber. He graduated from Whitney Point High School in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Army and spent 1-1/2 years in the Occupation Forces stationed in Japan.
He attended Cornell University and joined IBM Corporation at Endicott, New York in 1953. In 1957 he was transferred to Rochester, Minnesota. He retired from IBM in 1984.
Twenty-six of his thirty-one years with IBM were in management positions in Rochester and World Trade in Singapore and Japan.
Art was active in his church and community. He served with the United Way, Rochester Civic Theater, Rochester Art Center and Boy Scout Troop 101. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Rotary Club of Rochester. He was a past director of the IBM Quarter Century Club and also a past president of the IBM Retirees Club. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a charter member and 1 st vice-president of the church's men's club.
He is survived by three daughters, Lorrie Davitt of Naperville, IL, Patty Wilber of Plymouth, MN and Anne (Terry) Jacobson of Mounds View, MN and a sister, Joyce Wilber Boyce of New York. Surviving grandchildren are Sam Davitt, Charlie Davitt, Molly Davitt, Aaron Jacobson, Luke Jacobson, Ben Jacobson, James Nammacher and Margot Nammacher. He was preceded in death by his son, Jim, one brother and two sisters.
