Iva Marie
Rolstad
October 2, 1925 – October 18, 2019
Iva Rolstad, 94, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 18, 2019 with Renee and Angie by her side.
Iva was born October 2, 1925 in the Spring Grove area to Clarence and Ruth Liudahl. She grew up in Harmony and graduated from Harmony high school. After graduating, she moved to Rochester and began working for First National Bank. She met the love of her life, Birgy Rolstad, after he returned from serving in the Navy, and they were married September 20, 1947 at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Birgy and Iva shared the exact same birthday, October 2, 1925, which made it an even more special day for them. Post Bulletin did an article on them, titled "lad and lass born same day to be married" in September 1947, prior to their wedding day.
Iva was a stay at home mom for Steve and Renee until they reached junior high school. She then returned to work at First Bank (former First National Bank, now US Bank) until her retirement in 1983. Birgy and Iva loved spending time at their Turtle Lake, Wisconsin cabin with family and friends. Their door was always open and everyone was welcome to spend time there with them. More than anything, Iva loved her family and grandchildren, Angie and Erik, and great grandson, Levi. She was always available when needed and a great cook for family meals. No one can make her meatballs and gravy and Thanksgiving dressing like she did.
She and Birgy were thrilled to travel, visiting Norway multiple times to visit relatives. They were beyond excited to visit Steve in Saudi Arabia (when he was there working for Mayo Clinic) and traveled the middle east with him, also visiting Germany, Norway, and Denmark. They traveled United States, one coast to the other, making more fun memories for them.
Iva was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bethel Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.
Our family would like to thank Kayla Kappel, NP, Dr. Sarah Crane and Kirsten RN from her Care transition team at Mayo Clinic, Seasons Hospice and Home Instead Senior home care for their tremendous support, help, exceptional care and compassion they gave our mom/grandma and our family so we could keep her in her home. Her final wish came true!
Iva is survived by her daughter, Renee Balloy; grandchildren Angie (Nolan) Meyer, Erik (Christina) Balloy and great grandson, Levi Steven Meyer, and brother Ron (Jackie) Liudahl. She was preceded in death by her husband Birgy (2011); her son Steve (2015); her sister E. Jean Liudahl; and brother Clarence Liudahl Jr.
The Memorial Service for Iva will be on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 1:00PM at Bethel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Normal Wahl officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 11:30-1:00PM at the church.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, in Rochester, alongside Birgy and Steve, and her sister.
