Irene M.
Johnson
June 10, 1923 – December 1, 2013
Irene M. Johnson, 90, of Rochester, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2013) at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth, Rochester.

She graduated from Academy of Holy Angels High School, Richfield, in 1941, and married Darrel L. Johnson on Nov. 19th, 1946 in Rosemount, Minn. The couple eventually moved to Rochester, where they danced together until Darrel's death in 2006.
Irene was a homemaker, an auxiliary volunteer in Rochester hospitals, and a longtime member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She enjoyed the flyer's life, attending Mass, reading, playing the piano, gardening, knitting, camping (especially in the Black Hills of South Dakota), playing cards (especially 500), dancing to polkas and waltzes, watching Rochester Royals baseball, laughing loud, traveling near and far, and just being with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, James L. (Pamela) Johnson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Carol J. Johnson of Ojai, Calif., Lois A. (Jerry) Halloran of Eagan, Minn., Sharon K. (Joe) Spencer of Rochester, Richard E. Johnson of Mason City, Iowa, and Robert A. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrel, and five siblings.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00AM Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
