Hong Loun, 84, of Rochester, passed away on August 20, 2024, peacefully at home after a wonderful fulfilling life.  Hong was a very kind and generous man.

Hong was born February 4, 1940, in Kompong Charm, Cambodia.   He left Kompong Charm as a young adult to live in Battambang till Khmer Rouge regime in 1975.  After he escaped from Khmer Rouge in 1979, Hong took his family to Cambodia-Thailand border.  They ended up living in multiple refugee camps (Kao I Dang, Sa Kaeo II, Phanat Nikom in Thailand, and Bataan in Philippine).  Hong and his family immigrated to Rochester, Minnesota, USA in March 1984.   Hong became a naturalized U.S. citizen on November 19, 1997.  He was so proud to be an American citizen.

Hong was a multitalented individual.  He was one of the best car painters in Battambang (owned auto body shop), farmer during Khmer Rouge, middle school teacher (in Sa Kaeo II), and worked as technician with Kato Engineer. He retired from Kato Engineer in 2002.  He spoke three languages, Cambodian, Vietnamese, and English.

Hong married his beloved wife Chantha for 58 years.  He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, seventeen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.  Hong was a deeply beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, brother, brother-in-law, and friend.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, and he loved them greatly.
