Herschel Ray

Herschel Ray Hoxworth, 74, passed away from natural causes on February 15, 2012 at Golden Living East, in Rochester MN.
Herschel was born to Ray and Erma (Diettreich) Hoxworth on October 2, 1937, in Nodaway County, MO. He spent his early years in Bedford, IA, Taylor County. He graduated high school in Sheridan MO, in 1955.
Herschel served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1961, where he was schooled in carpentry, battle indoctrination, code of conduct, military justice, and the Geneva convention. He worked at Whitings in Rochester and then at Crenlo as a welder for 35 years before retiring in 2003. Herschel was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Rochester, baptized on May 12, 1959, and confirmed on May 18, 1969. Herschel enjoyed auto racing of all types, especially sprint cars and the Indy 500. He raced snowmobiles, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had a green thumb, enjoyed working in his garden, and grew many award winning cacti and flowers. He and his wife Carol (Susie) loved animals and they gave good homes to many needy stray cats. He was a loving husband to his wife. He was great uncle, like a second father to his nieces and nephews.
Herschel married Carol (Susie) Jeanne Hoxworth on Oct. 3 1959. Herschel is survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Erma Hoxworth.
Friends and family may visit from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 19, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one half hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The funeral will be held on Monday February 20, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in southeast Rochester with the Rev. Scott R. Schilbe officiating.
