The funeral service for George S. Young Jr. will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating. His body will be interred in the Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Thursday also at the funeral home.

Mr. Young, 90, of Rochester, died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany. His wife, Malinda preceded him in death on March 22, 2015.

George was born December 28, 1926 in Asheville, NC to George and Lois Young. He and Malinda Sigmon were married on December 28, 1947 at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church in Asheville, NC. He graduated from N.C. State in 1950 and was hired directly by IBM. George worked for IBM for over 30 years and was transferred to Rochester in 1967.

Survivors include his daughter, Georgia (Daryl) Young Jensen of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Denise "Blaze" Young, widow of his son, Dan "Chop" Young of Chester, seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

George was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy. He and Malinda were both avid golfers, and he loved woodworking. His favorite creations were post office door banks (Young Things) which he and Malinda sold at craft shows after his retirement.
