The funeral Mass for Gene F. Overkamp will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Francis Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in River Park Chapel at Macken Funera l Home on Friday, February 17, 2012 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Mr. Overkamp, 85, of Rochester, died Monday February 13, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis of natural causes.

Gene was born May 13, 1926 in Grand Meadow, MN. to Edward and Janna (Bjerke) Overkamp. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1944, and attended Gustavus  Adolphus College and Rochester Junior College. May 28, 1949 Gene Married Monica "Mixie" Hebert at Chippewa Falls, WI. Mrs. Overkamp died September 10, 1982

Gene worked for Woodruff Supply Company.  He was also a WWII Navy Veteran.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey (Jackie) Overkamp of Altura, MN.  and five daughters, Jane (Craig) Nakken of Minneapolis, MN. ; Monica Overkamp (Mark Rosenberg) of Lino Lakes, MN. ; Mary (Jeff) Brown of Rochester, MN. ; Lea Ann (Eric) Ofstedahl of St. Croix Falls, WI. ; Lori (Chris) Alcott of Rochester, MN. Gene is also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Gene's brother  James (Jeanette) Overkamp of Rochester and sister Doris Nord of Stewartville, MN. also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a granddaughter.

Gene was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge and founder of Rocket Aero Aviation. He was a member of the Soldiers Field Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, and his dogs.

Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post  #92  at the graveside services on Saturday.
