The funeral for Francis O. Aning will be at 10:30am, Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Rochester, MN, with Father Tom Loomis officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, June 12, 2015 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one half hour prior to services at the church on Saturday, June 13th. A repass will be held at the Rochester Community Baptist Church (1048 6th Ave SE) immediately following the burial.
Francis, 64, of Rochester, Minn., died Sunday, May 10th, 2015, while traveling in Ghana.
Francis was born in Koforidua, Ghana and moved to the U.S. with his wife Theresa in 1974. They lived in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, before moving to Binghamton, New York where they gave birth to their daughter Amma and son Yaw. They moved to Rochester in 1990. Francis was very active in his church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, singing and drumming with the Youth Choir.
Francis worked for the Mayo Clinic as a Senior Program Analyst for 17 years. Prior to that, he worked at IBM in Rochester for 16 years. Francis retired from the Mayo Clinic in November of 2014.
Francis was a loving husband, father, uncle, brother and friend. He was active in numerous organizations including Black Data Processors of America, Toastmasters, Cancer Support Group, and coached and refereed soccer games in the greater Rochester area. When his wife Theresa battled cancer, he was a dedicated caregiver who did everything he could for his wife and family. He loved meeting new people and cared deeply about their well-being and never left a conversation without trying to make someone smile. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by son Joseph Aning (41) of Burnsville, Minn, daughter Amma Aning Odum (32) of Cleveland, Ohio, and son Yaw Aning (30) of Indianapolis, Ind. He is also survived by his grandsons, Michael and Emmanuel Aning.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
