Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Henry Hansen, (87) of Rochester passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 2, after a brief illness.

He was united in marriage to Margaret (Maggie) Wampfler on May 20, 1950. Together, they had seven daughters, Deb LePera, Nancy (James) Hammett, Kathy (Craig) Olson, Chris (Danny Joe) Bray, Jennifer (Shannon) Shiek, Mary (Ross) Fredericksen, and Lori Kuehn.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, six daughters, eighteen grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), his sister, Diane Trimble, and many nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary Fredericksen, and two brothers, Eddie and David Hansen.

He worked many years as a District Manager for the Hamms and Schlitz brewing companies, ran his own business, retired after managing a local beer distribution company.

He was an avid fan of the Vikings and Twins.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling and exploring the U.S. He enjoyed video poker at the island.

His passion was his family; he adored his wife Maggie, his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He had a gift for speaking and telling a story and delivered eloquent toasts at each of his daughters and grandchildren's weddings. He had a great sense of humor and his wit entertained everyone he came across.

His Christian faith was very important to him and he instilled it in each of his children and grandchildren, leading by example.

Family and friends may join in a celebration of his life on Saturday June 10, 2017 at Pax Christi Catholic Church 4135 – 18th Avenue N.W. Rochester, MN. A visitation will begin at 10 am with Mass beginning at 11 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.
