The funeral service for Eleanor Beth Stowe Hudson will be Saturday, February 15 th , at 1:00 pm, at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin White officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Eleanor Beth Hudson passed away Saturday, February 8, as a recent resident of Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, Minnesota.
Eleanor, who also loved to be called Beth, was born in Holbrook, Nebraska, to Nora and Paul Stowe. She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1941, moved with parents to Centralia, Missouri, in 1941, and taught country school for one year. After passing civil service exams, went to Washington, DC, in 1942 working for the Marine Corps in the Medals and Decorations Department for the first woman Marine. Eleanor was honored to prepare citations for meritorious service for the Marine Corps, and those citations were signed by President Franklin D Roosevelt.
She married in Washington, DC, in 1944, to Chief Petty Officer Charles W (Bill) Hudson. They lived in Boston, MA, St Louis, and Kansas City, Missouri, then transferred to Rochester, MN, in 1956 where Bill worked at IBM and later with KTTC-TV, and at KAAL-TV until he retired. Bill died in 1999. Eleanor worked 28 years at Waters Instruments, Inc., and retired as Human Resources Manager in 1989. She was active in various organizations through the years and most recently bridge, sewing, and Lois Circleat Hope Summit Christian Church.
Eleanor and Bill had four children: Janet Kay (Roy) Stevenson, Judy Lynn (Darryl/"Hoss") Moyer, and two children who predeceased her: Paul Charles (Sandra) Hudson and Karen Sue (Ted) York. She lived for her grandchildren: Todd (Janice) Cain, Christi (Shawn) Eyre, David Stevenson, Heidi (Mike) Torgerson, Jesse (Courtnee) Moyer, Jennifer (Jesse) Laganiere, Tara Tesch, Shawna Bowman, and Eric Hudson. And how she loved her 11 great grandchildren Jessica, Jacob, Anna, Joseph, Cooper, Bentley, Brandon, Carley, Riley, Korbin, and Hayden who simply called her "Great". Their visits meant everything to her. She also had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, along with Whitney Bekaert, and Shepherd and Malcolm Cradic who also called her Grandma. She had four siblings: predeceased by brothers, Robert Stowe and Richard Stowe. She has two wonderful "sistas": Pauline (Loyd) Armontrout in Centralia, MO, and Laura Mae (Gene) Heine in Punta Gorda, FL.
