Edward "Ed" Vernon Volz, 55, formerly of Rochester, passed away peacefully at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, Washington on April 9th, 2026, after an unexpected cardiac arrest on March 26th. His brother Tim ensured Ed's wishes for being an organ donor were granted, and he was able to donate his heart, liver, and both kidneys to four people in need.
Ed was born on November 30th, 1970, in Janesville, MN, to John and Jeanne (Seger) Volz. He attended Chatfield High School and eventually obtained his GED. Edward worked in Rochester in the restaurant industry in his early 20's, including a long stint at Mac's Restaurant. He moved to Seattle, WA at the age of 25, and lived there for the past 30 years. He worked in the restaurant industry there, including 20 years at Shari's Café and Pies. He spent the last six years working at The Fisherman's, including time as a manager. The Fisherman's is a popular restaurant on Pier 57, right next to the Seattle Great Wheel. He had many friends in Seattle, including Minnesota transplant Mike Augustine, his roommate of many years, and good friends Michelle Hull and her significant other, Mor. Ed had a daughter Emma, who he loved very much. He was a free spirit spending two years in Israel near the Dead Sea cutting hair and living in a tent. He loved Minnesota sports - all of them, especially the Vikings. He will be deeply missed by his friends in both Rochester and Seattle.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his beloved Lhasa Apso Bandit. He is survived by his brother Tim and daughter Emma.
The Memorial Service in Rochester, MN, for Edward will be held on Saturday, June 6th, 2026 at 12:00 PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Chapel. Half of his ashes will be laid to rest at French Lake in Faribault, MN, a popular vacation spot for the family in his younger years. His celebration of life will be held in Seattle, WA, on June 27th, 2026.
