Edna Mae
Smith
August 10, 1921 – October 12, 2019
Edna Mae Smith, 98, of Rochester, MN passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Shorewood Commons, Assisted Living in Rochester, MN. Our hearts are broken but we are comforted knowing she is now at peace.
Edna was born on August 10, 1921 in rural Elgin, MN. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1939 and Winona State Teacher's College in 1941.
On September 4, 1942 she married Emery C. Smith. They farmed in the Viola area for 35 years. Edna taught school early on in her marriage and worked for Rochester Guest House from 1970 to 1985 as a cook and baker. She especially enjoyed her work there as she loved baking; her breads, cookies and desserts were The Best!
She was a member of Hope Summit Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She had resided at Shorewood Commons for the past eight years.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Judy (Dennis) Johnson of Rochester; grandson, Terry (Carie) Johnson; two great granddaughters, Alexandra and Danielle both of Newbury Park, CA; brother, Harvey Cunningham (Elsie Baresh) of Cannon Falls, MN; two nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery C. Smith in 1977 and her parents Wayne and Cora (Harvey) Cunningham.
