Dorothy "Dottie" Hultquist passed away January 21, 2019 in Rochester.
Dorothy Amanda Ohland was born October 3, 1925 to Fred and Bertha Ohland in Gibbon, MN She attended the Gibbon Parochial Schools and graduated in 1943. She married Donald Hultquist of Redwood Falls, MN on June 27, 1948. They lived in Redwood Falls, St. Paul and Marshall, MN before settling in Rochester in 1954.
Dorothy loved butterflies, gardening, sunflowers, roosters and for many years sitting on her patio with a cup of coffee and cookies.
She worked as a telephone operator in Gibbon and a salesperson at Dayton's in Rochester. Along with being a long-time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, she served as the church secretary for 26 years until her retirement in 1992. In 1982, she was named the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) "Women of the Year".
Dorothy is survived her children, Steven Hultquist (Francine) Visalia, CA, Kristine Spornitz (William) Olathe, KS, and Lori Hameister (Donald) Eyota, MN; grandchildren, Donald, Regina and Jonathan, Max (Kristi), Stacy, Ryan and Angie (Marsh), and Samantha (Stephen) and Tyler; along with 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, June Stearns; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (1970); infant daughter, Jan Marie; brother, Harold; her parents; and in-laws, Carl and Florence Hultquist.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN with Pastor Adam Koglin officiating.
Memorials will be distributed by the family to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Redeemer Lutheran Church, March of Dimes and The Learning Center in Visalia, California.
