Lorry Macken, age 97, formerly of Rochester died peacefully this past week at Lexington Pointe Senior Living facility in Eagan, MN.

Born Dolores L. Sullivan in 1928 in Wayne, Michigan to Thomas and Hazel Sullivan, she graduated from High School there in 1946 and attended Michigan State University for a year.

On the advice of a neighbor, she attended St. Marys School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota, graduating in 1950. Afterword, she worked as a private duty registered nurse in addition to working at St. Marys Hospital. In her retirement, she continued her connection to the hospital by volunteering as a Pink Lady.

In 1951 she married Daniel D. Macken in Wayne, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 2020.

Lorry resided in Rochester for many years, raising nine children alongside her husband, Dan. In addition to her role as a homemaker, she also served as an office secretary and bookkeeper for Macken Funeral Home.

A move to rural Rochester in the mid-1960s allowed Lorry to embrace country living, where she enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, birdwatching, and long walks outdoors before she and Dan relocated back to town in 1992.

She had a love for golf which began in her forties and played frequently with her husband. Competing in the Eastwood and Willow Creek women’s leagues, she famously hit a hole-in-one at Willow Creek. Winters were spent in Phoenix and Southwestern desert socializing with both old friends from Rochester and new ones made along the way.

A kind and attentive listener with a wonderful sense of humor, Lorry was a gracious host who loved bringing family and friends together for holidays.

Her faith was central to her life, and over the years, she and her family were active parishioners at St. Francis, Church of the Resurrection, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Churches.

She is survived by nine children, Susan Dighero, Denver; Daniel K. (Debbie), South Patrick Shores, FL; Timothy (Sue), Rochester, Ann (Kevin) Nigon, Rochester; Joseph (Kathy), Los Osos, CA; Mary (John) Garry, Rochester; Peggy (Tom) Ryan, Mendota; Katy (Bob) Cass, Eagan; Jennifer Sandstrom, Wabasha. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Tom and Joe Sullivan.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00am Monday, June 8, 2026 at Church of the Resurrection, 1600 11th Ave. SE Rochester, MN 55904, officiated by Rev. James Steffes and concelebrated by Revs. Bob Horihan and Timothy Reker. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church beginning at 10:00am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Poverello Foundation c/o Mayo Clinic and the Sisters of St. Francis.
