Dennis Martin Greising

December 26, 1949 – August 3, 2026

Surrounded by family at his home, Denny journeyed to rest in the Lord Jesus on August 3, 2026. Born on December 26, 1949 in St. Paul, he was the third child of seven to Robert “Bob” and Mary Jane (Moeller) Greising.

Dennis attended Hill Catholic High School for boys in St. Paul and later moved to Waterville where he graduated in 1967. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as an F-4 Phantom jet engine mechanic during the Vietnam War (Honorably discharged 1970). He graduated from Mankato State University where he met his wife Shirley (Ives). After additional study at the University of Minnesota, they moved to Rochester.

Denny was employed at Beckley’s, Rochester Public Schools, SMECSU, and self-employed for two years as a daycare dad. He then worked 20 years for the United States Postal Service before retiring in 2015. In retirement, he fixed anything he could get his hands on for friends and family and spent a lot of time with his grandkids. He was a devoted student of the Bible who loved the Lord Jesus and greatly enjoyed christian fellowship. Denny also enjoyed learning about the history and culture of the Dakota people from his mother-in-law and other relatives and elders. A favorite Dakota/christian hymn he learned from them was “Wakantanka Taku Nitawa (Many and Great, O God, Are Your works)”.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survived by his loving wife, Shirley (married 53 years); his children, Ian, Mette, and Alex (Becca) Greising of Rochester; his siblings Judith (Michael) Keogh of Morristown, Kevin Greising of St. Peter, Jayme (Deborah) Greising of Waterville, Elise Volbrecht of Waterville, and Mari (Sydney) Payton of Burnsville; his 12 grandchildren and one step-grandchild (Grace, Jacob, Nora, Rebecca, Elisha, Jude, Ethan, Nathaniel, Makel, TJ, Leah, Nika, and Emery); and many extended family relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first child, Hermon (stillborn), his parents, and his brother, Robert Greising.

The family extends special thanks to Veteran's Affairs and to Seasons Hospice for the support they provided to Denny in his final days.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. Military honors and interment will be at 3:00 p.m. the same day at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.

Macken Funeral Home in Rochester is handling arrangements including a livestream of the 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life which can be found on their website.
