Dawn
Morstad
September 14, 1921 – September 5, 2012
Dawn Morstad, 90, of Rochester passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Golden Living East.
Born September 14, 1921, in Lisbon, North Dakota, as the sun shone in the windows, parents Rasmus and Carrie Fredrickson said, "Her name will be Dawn, only Dawn." Dawn had 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by 3 older sisters: Esther Melvin of Fargo, ND; Myrtle Walters of Lisbon, ND; Fern Harding of Butler, PA.
During World War II, Dawn married John Morstad from the Decorah, Iowa, area in 1944. They had three children: Nancy Westberg (Dennis), Rochester; David of Moore, OK; and Randall (Delaine) of Ham Lake, MN. Later 8 grandchildren arrived, and even later 10 great grandchildren. John passed away in 2010.
This talented homemaker enjoyed tending her flower gardens. In her younger days, Dawn loved braiding beautiful rugs and sewing clothes. She used what she had and created beautiful decor. Another true labor was her lutefisk and lefse dinners that could rival any churches.
To the many friends she made, and relatives traveling, her funeral will be at 11:00AM Friday, Sept. 7th, 2012, in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Chaplain Kelley Adelsman officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery beside her husband. Dawn's love for her family was rich and precious. She was enjoyed and will be sorely missed.
