April 16, 1933 – October 4, 2019
David Earle Williams was born April 16, 1933 in Oakland, CA to Arthur H. (Bill) Williams and Matilda L. Williams, and died Friday, October 4, 2019, of prostate cancer. In 1939, the family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he attended public schools. He graduated from Wagner College, Staten Island, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955. After two years as a laboratory technician at Sloan-Kettering Institute in Manhattan, he entered medical school at New York Medical College, also in Manhattan, graduating in 1961 and attaining election to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor fraternity. In 1959, David married his soul mate, Barbara Ann Krumm, RN of Blue Earth, MN. After a one year internship at New Rochelle Hospital, NY, he entered the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, MN as a Fellow in Internal Medicine. He joined the Mayo Clinic staff and faculty in the division of Primary Care Internal Medicine in 1966, rising to the rank of Assistant Professor. He retired in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Hobart. David is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their four children: David; John (Jessie); Peter (Sandra); Sarah (Steve); a sister, Elizabeth Risberg; eight grandchildren (Hayden, Finlay, Zachary, Alexandra, Jackson, Laine, Hudson, and Mia); and a goddaughter (Danielle).
A visitation will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
He has donated his body to Mayo Medical School, after which his cremains will be interred in Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care provided by his Mayo Clinic physicians, and other caretakers, including Seasons Hospice and special friends, Lisa and Tony Hudson.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
