David Anthony Dahmus, 62, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at his home in Rochester.
Dave was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on August 18, 1949, to Roman and Mildred (Robert) Dahmus. He graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo and from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After college Dave spent 3 years in Africa working with the Peace Corp and traveling. Upon returning home from Africa he was hired by JCPenney catalog in Milwaukee, WI, where he became a computer programmer. On September 26, 1981, he married Susan Michaelson in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. In 1997 they moved to Rochester to work for Mayo Clinic in the Information Technology department. Dave worked as a unit manager and retired from the clinic in November, 2011.
Dave enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, playing card games, fishing, hiking, eating pie, napping with Callie the cat, supporting the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with family and friends.
Dave is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sue; his sisters Ann (Larry) Ousterling of Milwaukee, WI, Mary (Matthew) Martens of Fort Dodge, IA, and Rita (Richard) Peltz of Des Moines, IA; his brother Michael (Grace) Dahmus of Davis, CA; his mother-in-law Doris Michaelson, Ladysmith, WI, who loved to make him pies; his sisters-in-law Chris (Chuck) Rognsvoog, Ladysmith, WI, and Carol Michaelson, Hudson, WI; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Mildred and his brother-in-law Mark Michaelson.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday June 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 4135 18 th Ave NW, Rochester, with Rev. Joe Fogal officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, in River Park Chapel, at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Mayo Clinic Hospice, the Poverello Foundation at Mayo's Saint Marys Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, or a charity of the donor's choice.
