David Arne Arneson, age 83, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Dave was born on January 5, 1943, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Arne and Verna (Engelhart) Arneson. Dave enjoyed his childhood years growing up in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years. He then attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Communications. Following college, Dave began his long-standing professional career as a Bank Examiner with the State of Minnesota.
Fate led him to enroll in a social dance class in 1976, where he met the love of his life, Linda Hohenstein. The two were married on January 22, 1977, at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, where they remained lifelong members. Together they began a union built on love, laughter, and shared adventures. They joyfully welcomed their son, Joe, in November of 1980. The three of them enjoyed many of Dave's passions including traveling, hiking, skiing, and sailing. They also were able to experience his deep appreciation for aviation. He and Linda spent 45 memorable years surrounded by fellow aviation enthusiasts at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin. As well, among one of the highlights of his life, was flying with Joe aboard a 1929 Ford Trimotor aircraft. Another unforgettable adventure took him to Arizona, where he soared along the breathtaking Mogollon Rim, combining his love of flight with the beauty of nature. Dave also had a great interest in classic cars and model railroads. His beloved cockapoos, Muffin, Mollie, and Sophie brought him endless companionship and happiness over the years.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Linda; son, Joseph (Cyndi) Arneson; granddaughter, Audrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arne and Verna Arneson; brother, Paul Arneson; and sister Marilyn Arneson Crary.
A special thank you to Family Service Rochester, Cascade Creek Memory Care, Mayo Clinic Hospice, friends, and family, all who helped care for Dave over the last several years. Donations may be made in honor of Dave to Mayo Clinic Hospice.
