Obituary

Cynthia Joy Shannon passed away October 11, 2023, after a long and very courageous battle with biliary cancer.

Cindy was born in Zumbrota on March 5, 1954, to Joyce and Colleen Fredrickson. After high school graduation in Wanamingo, she started her career at Mayo Clinic in the Central Appointment Desk. She went on to become a liaison with programmers in the IT department. She was very popular with co-workers and was known as the candy lady in her office.

Cindy knew how to bring fun and humor to the room wherever she went. She had a large battalion of friends in her life and loved going out to lunch with them. She was an awesome older sister, aunt, daughter, wife, and friend and will be greatly missed. Cindy always had a very generous heart, especially for those down on their luck.

In 1989, Cindy married the love of her life, Tom Shannon, and spent the next 27 years making a life with him until his passing in 2016. Cindy found joy in reading, music, traveling, spending time with her friends and relatives, planning family trips, and anything Mayberry or lighthouse. Always up for trying new adventures, she spent a summer volunteering at Split Rock Lighthouse as a tour guide dressed as a lighthouse keeper's wife, which was the thrill of a lifetime for her. She also had various volunteer jobs at her snowbird home in Maple Leaf Senior Country Club in FL. Cindy had a real talent for making holidays fun with decorations, games, and prizes. She always made an effort to engage with each person present and had a passion for social events.

She leaves behind her father, Joyce Fredrickson, of Wanamingo; sisters, Julie Blahnik of Rochester, Rhonda (Dave) Canale of Rochester, Kay (Eddie Maldonado) Fredrickson of Ridge Manor, FL, Jill (Randy)Vicker of Hillsboro, OR; brother Dale Fredrickson of Wanamingo; stepchildren Ryan Shannon and Jackie Grandstrand of Minneapolis and their children; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Tom, brother Fred, her mother, and brother-in-law Fran Blahnik.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. There will be a lunch following the service.
