Clayton H. Sanders, 91, of Rochester, MN, died on July 20, 2021, at Rochester West Health Services.
He was born on April 28, 1930, in Valley City, ND to Elwin and Mabel Sanders. He graduated from Valley City High School in 1948 and attended Northwestern College and the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army and later became a member of the American Legion. On September 14, 1957, Clayton married Caroline A. Tupy in New Prague, MN.
Clayton was an Engineer at KROC/KTTC and served as the Chief Engineer for 43 years. After retiring in 1995, he worked for the Fox News for 2 years.
He enjoyed working on antique cars and radios, and also hunting and fishing. Clayton had an interest in flying airplanes, and in his younger years, owning a Aronka of his own in the 1950s. In his later years, his interests included working on the family's lake home in Akeley, MN. His pride were his grandchildren coming to the lake to enjoy the north woods with the whole family.
Clayton is survived by his children, Natalie (Mike) Stone of Sun Prairie, WI, and Alan (Jenna) Sanders, of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Shannon (Kent) Collier and Sawyer Stone, both of Sun Prairie, WI and Konnor Lewis and Kamron Lewis, both of Rochester; and sister, Shirley Browning of Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; his parents; and his siblings, Elwin "Pete" Sanders, Muriel Forrey, and Norma Liberkowski.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
