Charles Deloss
Seymour
June 19, 1938 – March 20, 2015
Charles, "Charlie/Chuck" DeLoss Seymour, age 76, of Rochester, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 20 at Rochester Methodist hospital due to complications from a recent diagnosis of cancer. He was surrounded with love by his family.
Chuck is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Karen Krebs Seymour and his four children: Lisa Seymour Bell and her husband Brett; Stacey Seymour Hammer and her husband Mike; Jennifer Seymour Mullenbach and Jeff Seymour and his wife Charlotte.
He will always be remembered by his grandchildren who were the loves of his life: Allison, Katherine, Lauren, Alex, Jack, Bennett, William, Elizabeth, Madeline and Amelia. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother Margaret, sister Betty, son-in-law Kevin and mother- and father-in-law Don and Martha Krebs. He is also survived by his brother Jack Seymour and family in Washington State and his half-sister Kathryn Seymour in Colorado.
Born June 19, 1938 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Margaret Haugen Seymour, Chuck lived there for 44 years. In Fort Dodge he attended high school at Fort Dodge Senior High School and College at Fort Dodge Community College. Chuck's love for sports, especially basketball, started at a young age where he formed a lifelong friendship with Don Cook (who later became his brother-in-law). In high school, he played basketball for the Dodgers, earning a basketball scholarship to the University of South Dakota.
He met his wife Karen in Fort Dodge and they were married on May 29, 1965 in Manson, Iowa. They lived in Fort Dodge together for 18 years and later moved their family to Austin, Minnesota where Chuck worked at Hormel Foods for over 25 years. Chuck and Karen continued raising their three daughters and son in Austin.
Chuck and Karen have resided in Rochester for the past 20 years. In Rochester, Chuck brought his passion in caring for the elderly and those with special needs to his work at the Mayo Clinic's Charter House and REM. He cared for patients with his quick-witted sense of humor and genuine spirit. He was known for his big heart.
His life was one of determination. He was a member of AA and was proud to be in recovery for over 20 years. His strength was shared with others in his advice of, "living one day at a time." Chuck's life was characterized mostly by his unwavering care and love toward his family with his "no-nonsense" attitude. With ten grandchildren, he attended every sports, dance, play and recital event he could. He was so proud of each one of them and was always the first one at the event, (and often the most vocal).
This is not a good-bye to you, Chuck, but it is, "see you later."
