Charles “Chuck”
Jacobson
November 4, 1937 – March 16, 2019
Chuck Jacobson, 81, of Rochester, MN, died Saturday, March 16, 2019 peacefully at Madonna Towers surrounded by many of his family. Chuck was born November 4, 1937 in Cleveland, OH, where he received a Jesuit education, attending St. Ignatius High School and John Carroll University. He embodied the Jesuit tenet: "A man for others."
On July 11, 1959, he married Margee Atkins, also of Cleveland, OH. Chuck liked to say that he and Margee had one and one-half dozen children: Peggy (Jeff) Downes of Rosemount, MN; Patti (John) Cierzan of Rochester; Chris (Deb) Jacobson of Rochester; Geoffrey (Kristen) Jacobson of Everett, WA; Tim (Jenny) Jacobson of Goodyear, AZ; Jenn (Jeff) Johnson of Cleveland, TN; Jon (Michelle) Jacobson of Rochester. Chuck and Margee also have been blessed with 23 grandchildren, as well as eight great-grandchildren and counting.
After joining IBM in Ohio in 1963, he was transferred to Rochester in 1972 for two years…or so he thought! Chuck was a product planner for both the System 38 and the AS/400 and enjoyed teaching numerous courses for IBMers. He retired in 1993.
Chuck loved to dedicate himself to numerous activities throughout his career and well into retirement. He fed the hungry with Meals on Wheels and Community Food Response. He also was a tax aide for people with limited income. Chuck was a founding member of Kiwanis Rochester Day Makers and later became Governor of the Kiwanis MN-DAK Region.
He continued to live his faith, serving as a lector and eucharistic minister until he was no longer able. He was a Diocesan Tribunal Auditor, was on the board of National Marriage Encounter and served in many ways the Sisters of St. Francis.
As if that wasn't enough, Chuck made time to exercise daily, counting his laps in binary and often speed-walking backwards. The ham in him couldn't resist the siren call of the spotlight, performing in over forty plays at Rochester Civic Theater, as well as Radio Theater, Mayo Clinic educational videos and the occasional local commercial.
As many of you know, he loved challenging his mind, including anything involving numbers, strategy, puzzles, cards and puns. It broke our hearts to watch his brilliant mind melt away and we are rejoicing that he has become whole again and is at peace.
The memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home as well as one hour prior to the Mass at Pax Christi on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, family would prefer memorials to one of the following: Alzheimer's Association, Rochester Civic Theater or Sisters of St. Francis.
