Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Fuller Berryman was born on August 14, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa.  He passed on January 8, 2013 in Rochester, Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Roland Berryman of Rochester, Minnesota, his sister Nancy Berryman of Estes Park, Colorado, his sons Thomas and William of Chicago, Illinois, his daughters Linda Berryman (Wilfred Tinney) of Pearland, Texas and Beth Arps (Dr. James) of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and his two grandsons Erich and Carl. He is also survived by his stepchildren John, Chris (Helen), David (Karin), and Kathleen Roland and their families.

Chuck graduated with an A.B. from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from Marquette University School of Law. He was first employed by the Mutual Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then finished his career with the Alliance of American Insurers in Chicago, Illinois, where he was Assistant Vice President of Claims. He retired in 1992, moved to Rochester, and continued to work for the Foundation for Rehabilitation and Research.

For his nationally recognized service and promotion of responsible use of arbitration, Chuck was honored with the Whitney North Seymour, Sr. Arbitration Award in 1984. The prestigious award recognized his tireless work to advance the use of arbitration and all forms of peaceful dispute resolution.

Among his many memberships in professional organizations, Chuck was Chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, formed by Project Justice, a coalition of business, insurance, health care, and other professionals to work for the reform of the Illinois civil justice system,  and a member of the American Arbitration Association's personal Injury Disputes Advisory Committee.  He was a longtime and active member of the Wisconsin Bar Association.

In his retirement, Chuck traveled widely with his wife Marjorie, spending some winters near his daughters in Texas and then Minnesota.  He avidly read mystery novels and enjoyed attending winetastings with his stepson John.  He passed his lifelong love of swimming on to his grandson Erich, and enjoyed watching his grandson Carl in the soccer goaltender's net. He was particularly proud of his lifelong membership in Sigma Chi Fraternity and was pleased to sponsor the membership of his step-grandson Gordon.   He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 12, 2013 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service.
