The memorial Mass for Catherine van der Peet will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at St Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. van der Peet , 82  of Rochester, died Thursday September 13, 2012 at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. Catherine's body was donated to the Mayo Clinic.

Catherine was born July 28, 1930 south of South Fork, Colorado to Frank and Julia (Sierra) Maestas. She grew up in Colorado, where her father farmed. After high school, she went to Chamberlain, South Dakota and worked for the St. Joseph's Indian School. She then transferred to Walls, Mississippi to do Mission work.  In Chamberlain she met Peter van der Peet, and they married in 1964. In 1968 they settled in Rochester. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Methodist Hospital. She volunteered and was an expert knitter. Much of her work ended up in St. Paul for Mary Copeland.

She is survived by her husband Peter and brother Gene Maestas. She is preceded in death by one sister Allice, and two other brothers
