Carol T. Zwart, age 68 of Zumbrota, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.

Carol was born January 2, 1950 in Rochester, the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Spencer) Markus. She attended St. Francis Catholic School and graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester. She was united in marriage to Richard in 1969. Early in their marriage, Carol and Richard lived in Winona, Chicago, Stillwater, and Lakeville until ultimately moving to Zumbrota in 1991. She worked at the Bank of Zumbrota, mentoring many young women until she retired in 2016. Carol was very generous and giving as an active volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House, Dorothy Day House, Gage School, Assisi Heights and others. She was very strong in her faith, and became a Rochester Franciscan Cojourner in 2016. Carol's positive outlook spread joy and love to all those she met. Carol took great pleasure and joy from pretty much everything imaginable: from round hay bales in a field to a scribbled drawing made by a loved one. She was passionate about fishing, music, traveling, Minnesota sports, her Irish heritage, and loving her entire family, especially her six grandchildren and three sons.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents and son, Adam.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Zwart; sons, Benjamin (Alison) Zwart of Lakeville, MN, and Zachary (Shauna) Zwart of Edina, MN; six grandchildren, Olivia (12), Julia (8), Clara (8), Adalynn (4), Jackson (2) and newest, Violet Carol Zwart (3 months); and siblings, William (Doreen) Markus of Rochester, MN, and Ann (John) Heydt of Alexandria, MN.

A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

The Zwart family would like to extend an invitation to their home for a reception after the burial.
