Carol Ann

Byron American Legion Post 119
12:00 - 2:00 pm
Carol Ann Clough left us on October 15, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on February 11, 1939, in West Concord, Minnesota, Carol was the seventh child of Bernard Matthias Meyer and Irene Emma Van Den Hemel Meyer. Her life was a testament to resilience, strength, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Growing up in West Concord, Carol graduated from West Concord High School in 1957. On July 5, 1958, Carol married James Wesley Clough, beginning a 39-year journey of love and companionship until Jim's passing. Together, they shared amazing adventures on a 40-acre hobby farm where they raised their seven children: Susan, Sally, Sarah, Sharon, Sonja, Scott, and Joe. Later in life, Carol found companionship with Don Lohrbach, and they enjoyed many years together.
In addition to running the family hobby farm, she pursued various jobs, including driving a school bus and working in the local canning factory. After retirement, Carol and Jim moved to Babbitt, MN, where she was the first woman allowed in the Babbitt Legion club.
Carol was a skilled and vocally colorful fisherwoman. She also found joy in crafting hundreds of afghans and other crocheted projects that earned ribbons and prizes at county fairs. Family gatherings were never complete without spirited games of cards and dominoes, where her lively personality and competitive spirit were always on full display (and where you quickly learned not to sit next to her!)
Carol's legacy is lovingly carried forward by her children, her 14 grandchildren, and her 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Louise Erickson, Pat Kubat, and John Meyer. She was predeceased by her cherished husband, Jim, her parents, her sister, and eight brothers (one stillborn).
Carol's life will be celebrated on October 19, 2026, 11:00am, at a private family service at Christ the King Church (202 4th St NW, Byron, MN); followed by a public gathering from 12pm-2pm at the Byron American Legion Post 119 (505 Frontage Road NW, Byron). Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in this celebration of a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved.
Carol's feisty spirit, her fierce loyalty, and her boundless love will be sadly missed but will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
"And though she be but little, she is fierce." ~ William Shakespeare
