Carol Ardyce Andersen, 95, died peacefully on November 30, 2016 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. She had resided at Shorewood Place for the last 15 years.
Carol A. Ulen was the oldest of twelve children born to Charles and Johanna Sorbel Ulen on April 9, 1921 in Hanska, Brown County, MN. She was baptized at the family home when she was an infant. The family spent time in Faribault and rural Morristown. She graduated from Faribault High School in 1940.
She married Edgar Andersen on December 20, 1942 at First English Lutheran in Faribault, MN. Carol and Edgar moved to South St. Paul in 1943 and spent most of their time in the Twin Cities. Carol worked as an executive secretary for 42 years. Her hobbies were sewing and knitting. She completed a genealogical book on her paternal grandfather after her retirement and enjoyed many hours of research. She also became a ham radio operator (call letters KB0NRA) after retirement and enjoyed her contacts with her ham radio friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband Edgar and grandson Andy. She is survived by her daughter Joanna "Joni" and husband Carl Johnson. Three grandsons Kirk, Jeff (Janna), and Bruce (Traci) and one granddaughter Leah (Terry), one great grandson Edgar. She is also survived by five sisters, Maxine (Don) Nordmeier, Joanne (Gerald) Schwichtenberg, Sandra (Gordon) Krause, Charlene (Maynard) Schroeder and Noreen (Orman) Kalien and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Victor, Clayton, Myron and Ron Ulen – two sisters Lois Kramer and Betty Weum, sisters-in-law Ione Ulen, Iris Ulen and Patricia Ulen, brothers-in-law Gordon Krause, Don Nordmeier and Curt Weum and two infant children.
A Memorial Service for Carol will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00AM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Karna Hagen-Moskalik officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2016 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm in the River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
A private interment will be at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault, MN at a later date.
