C. Dean Tulledge, 85, of Rochester, MN, died Sunday, July 7, 2019 from complications of Parkinson's Disease, at the Waters on Mayowood Road surrounded by family.
Dean was born January 12, 1934 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Raymond and Alice (Strong) Tulledge. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1952. He met the love of his life, Ruth Schmidt at Leon's Frozen Custard, where she worked as a car hop. On September 10, 1955, he married Ruth at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. They lived the first few years of their marriage in Madison, Wisconsin, where Dean attended the University of Wisconsin earning the degree of Electrical Engineer. The couple moved to Rochester when Dean was hired by IBM, where he worked for 30 years and achieved the status of Senior Engineer and served in managerial positions. While working for IBM, Dean enjoyed overseas assignments. In 1967, Dean relocated his young family to Amsterdam, Netherlands, where he worked in the IBM lab in Uithorn for one year. In the early 1980's he had an assignment with IBM in Tokyo, Japan. After retirement, he worked at IBM Rochester as supplemental until age 81 and delivered Meals on Wheels (Family Service Rochester) for 17 years.
Dean and his wife lived most of their married life in rural Rochester (Genoa area), where they enjoyed maintaining a beautiful yard, garden and fruit orchard. Dean enjoyed riding his bike, boating, fishing and traveling internationally with his wife. He was an avid Minnesota Viking's fan and Wisconsin Badger fan.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Tulledge; three children, Daniel (Pamela) Tulledge of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Sidna Tulledge-Scheitel (Mark) of Rochester, MN and Suzanne Dahl (Manny Perez) of Lakeville, MN. Dean has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and brother.
Memorials are preferred to the Family Service Rochester (Meals on Wheels), MN or to the Memory Unit (Ponds at The Waters on Mayowood) staff who compassionately cared for Dean over the past year.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13th at Pax Christi Catholic Church with Rev. William Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas, MN.
