Obituary

Mr. Murray, 97, passed away on May 7, 2017 at Oak Valley Home.

He was born on the family farm in eastern Olmsted County on October 4, 1919. The family moved to Rochester in the early 1930's where he met Dr. Charles Mayo and worked at Mayowood in various capacities. He left for the war in October of 1941 and served in Hawaii, the Mariana, New Hebrides, and Marshall Islands.  He was discharged in May of 1945. He returned to Rochester and married Lena Rose Roller in February of 1946. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1946 to 1982.  He then retired and farmed full time raising crops and Black Angus cattle.

Blake's favorite things were doing fieldwork in his tractors and driving the grain trucks to the elevators with his dog in the seat beside him.  He did this well into his 90's.

He is survived by his son, Wayne of Rochester; his daughter, Dawn(Mrs. Terrence) Carr of Rosemount; and his grandson, Shane of Hastings MN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lena and his sister, Maxine(Mrs Herbert Bornfleth).

Memorials are preferred to The Veteran Memorial.

A visitation will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, May 15, 2017 at River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in Simpson, Minnesota with military honors provided by American Legion Post #92.
