“Bernie” Drier
May 5, 1929 – January 11, 2024
Bernard L. "Bernie" Drier, 94, of Rochester, died on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Madonna Towers surrounded by his loving wife.
Bernard was born May 5, 1929, in Durand, WI to Lambert and Margaret (Bundy) Drier. He attended and graduated from Winona Senior High School and then faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from 1948 – 1951. After the service, he married Betty Drier in 1953. Bernie worked as a driver/operator/fireman for the Rochester Fire Department from July 1956 until his retirement in March 1984.
Bernie enjoyed many activities over the years including water and downhill skiing, going to his cabin, and traveling with Betty. He was an Eagle Scout, very active in the Marion RC Flyers Model Airplane Club, and built many model airplanes for himself and other friends. Bernie was a wonderful man who was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Drier of Rochester; brother, James Drier; sister, Barbara Clark, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester, MN with Fr. John Sauer officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Madonna Towers Skilled Nursing Care for the exceptional care they provided Bernie. Special thanks to Mayo Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers please give to a charity of donor's choice.
