Obituary

Arthur Nickolas Mueller, age 88, died peacefully Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Rochester, MN surrounded by his family.

Arthur Nickolas Mueller was born May 7, 1929 in Elba township to Leo and Lucy (Wieser) Mueller. Art was six of eleven children. He attended Dublin grade school and graduated from St. Charles High school in 1947. He worked as a farm hand in Winona County; then moved to Rochester and worked at St. Marys Hospital. In 1951, he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving for two years in the Korean War stationed in Germany. In 1954, we joined the Rochester police department serving as a patrolman and detective for 33 years.

He married the love of his life, Helen Whittle, on October 2, 1954 at St Joseph's Church in Elkader, Iowa. They have been married for 63 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, trips to resorts up north, square dancing, gardening, bird watching, sports and other travel.

His Catholic religion was very important to him. He and his wife were long time members of St. Francis Parish. He participated with the parish council, Eucharistic Ministers, and outreach to the home bound for over 30 years. He served on the Catholic School Board, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as their Faithful Navigator and Honor guard. He and his wife were members of Teams of Our Lady for nearly 40 years

Art served as President of the board at Gramercy Park and on various committees where they lived for 13 years prior to moving to Madonna Towers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; four sons, Daniel (Ellen), Thomas (Annette), Gregory (Lynn), David (Donna); three daughters, Michelle (Dick) Roos, Mary (Tim) White, Joan (Greg) Wobig; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, George, Leo (Ted), Louis (Gloria) , James (Marie); his sisters, Edith (Roland) Holm and Clara (Rodney) Burt; in-laws, Florence Mueller, Tom Lehnertz, Greg & Emily Whittle, Irene Evans, Lowell (Peggy) Whittle, Marian & Dick Brockman, Francis & Susan Whittle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Art is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cletus; sisters, Leora Loftus, Rosemarie (Sr. Bona), and Marlene (Bets) Lehnertz; in-laws, Bernard Loftus, Carlene (George) Mueller, Lucille (Ted) Mueller, Walter & Sally Whittle, Loretta and Jerry Garbina, Joe Evans, Marvin & Sandy Whittle; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Pax Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Will Thompson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
