Obituary

The Memorial Mass for Anthony "Tony" J. Bugni will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Resurrection Catholic Church of Rochester. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at church.   Interment will be in the spring of 2012 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley, Wisconsin.

Tony Bugni, age 91, of Rochester (formerly of Hurley, WI.) died Friday, November 25, 2011 peacefully at his home. Anthony J. Bugni was born on January 5, 1920 in Montreal, Wisconsin. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1938. On July 18, 1942 he married Mary "Betty" Reader at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, WI. In 1946, the couple moved from Hurley to Milwaukee, and in 1950, they moved back to Hurley.  In 1997, they moved to Rochester to live with their daughter and son-in-law.

In July of 1942, Tony was called to service in the US Army, where he was a member of the 789 th AA Battalion. He served his country in the Atlantic, France, and Central Europe. Tony was ultimately decorated with a variety of service medals and a recognition from the French government for taking part in the Normandy  invasion.   Recently, he was able to attend the Honor Flight from Rochester to Washington D.C. with fellow WWII veterans. This trip was truly a highlight in his life.

Following his military duty, Tony returned home to Hurley, WI where he worked for the Cary Iron Ore Mining Company. He later moved to Superior, WI to finish his college education, ultimately obtaining a teaching degree in Social Studies. Tony taught for a time, and then went to work as a Mining Inspector for MSHA until his retirement.

Tony loved doing crossword puzzles, listening to John Duremis, watching Jeopardy, and playing with our families three dogs, Brady, Casey, and Coco. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was known for his stories and ability to make people laugh.

Survivors include a son, Gregory (Barb) of Hurley, WI, a daughter Patricia (Jerry) Rossman of Rochester, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Rosemary of Palos Verdes Estate, CA and Gloria of Sarasota, FL and a brother Richard of Mercer, WI.

He was preceded in death by, a son, Dennis, a daughter, Mary Patricia, his parents Rose and Anton and a sister, Margaret, three brothers Ronald, Florian and Lawrence, and his loving wife of 62 years, Mary "Betty" Bugni.
