November 26, 1925 – January 18, 2014
The memorial service for A. Greta Steinlicht will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 25, 2014 at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Rev. Vern Christopherson officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Mrs. Steinlicht, 88, of Rochester, died Saturday January 18, 2014 at Madonna Towers in Rochester.
Greta was born November 26, 1925 in Lincoln, NE. to Martin and Martha (Reimann) Sorensen. After graduating from high school Greta received her teaching degree from The University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Greta moved to Rochester and taught school at Folwell Elementary School. She was also the organist at Zumbro Lutheran Church, where she met F. Howard Steinlicht who sang in the choir. They got married December 26, 1949 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE. Greta and Howard also owned and operated the Sorensen Rooming House in Rochester. During their retirement the couple spent time in Branson, MO. and Harlingen, TX, where among other things, they enjoyed square and round dancing. Howard died January 18, 2007. Greta was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church, volunteered with St. Mary's Auxiliary, and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Rochester, where she served as the Worthy Matron in 1981.
Survivors include her two daughters Karin (Buechler) Steinlicht of Rochester; Ruthann (Steve) Baker of North Kingstown, RI. ; three sons David (Delores) of Vegreville, AB, Canada; John (Connie) of Eden Prairie, MN. ; Jim (Kathy) of Fairbault, MN. ; eleven grandchildren, Chris Buechler and Libby Buechler both of Washington D.C.; Nico (Shannon) Baker; Chelsea (Tom) Soule; Jesse Fielding; Lyle Fielding all of North Kingstown, RI.; Dane Steinlicht and Mitchell Steinlicht both of New York City; Dan (Chelsey) Steinlicht of Fargo, ND.; Laura (Matt) Johnson of New Hope, MN. ; Mary Steinlicht of Atlantic, Iowa. She is also survived by six great grandchildren and two sisters, Martha Sterner of Rochester and Ruth (Ken) Wilson of Rochester. Greta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers-in-law Elmer Sterner and Palmer Godtland, and sister-in-law Bernice Godtland.
Memorials are preferred to Zumbro Lutheran Church, or Madonna Towers.
